Check out this good piece by The Guardian on the #OccupyOurHomes action yesterday in East New York. I would like to point out that The Guardian is a British publication, yet they covered this story better than any US publications (hint hint New York Times).
Homeless Family Occupies Foreclosed Home in Brooklyn (Inside Story)
Check out this video from the Occupy Our Homes action yesterday in East New York. I am so proud that I was one of the thousand or so people who marched through the neighborhood and supported this family occupying this foreclosed house. I am so proud that Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ), an organization of which I am a member, participated in this action in solidarity with the community in East New York and as part of the Occupy movement. We marched to four different houses that the banks have foreclosed on and ended our action with a rally and block party, part of which is shown at the end of this video.
Last year I completed a M.A. in International Human Rights. I'm interested in the praxis of human rights, the role of social justice movements and the value of tikkun olam to make the world a better place. I am also interested in international development, humanitarian aid, social justice movements, politics, economics, community organizing and the values of deep and direct democracy. As a queer Jew I care about certain issues, but I strive to push discourse and work for real, meaningful, and lasting progressive change.
This blog is a forum for me to discuss my ideas and analysis and share what I do and think about on the issues that matter to me.
